This week our Year 9 students participated in an exciting ‘Creative Day’. With the UK leading the world in most sectors of the creative industry, employing graduates from British Art and Design schools, this day was designed to get students thinking about the wide range of creative career opportunities available.
The day began with a series of engaging presentations delivered by six creative practitioners, including four Latymer alumni, who provided students with valuable insights into the broad spectrum of careers within the world of art and design. Each speaker shared details about their creative career journeys, experiences, and the educational paths they took to reach their professions.
The alumni speakers included Noni Braithwaite, a Creative Strategist and Art Director, who discussed her work in graphic design; Naomi Serene, an SFX Makeup and Prosthetics artist; Will Bond, a Fashion Designer who spoke about fashion photography; and Nina Anderson, an Architect. In addition to the Latymer alumni, students also heard from Jeanette Barnes, a Visual Artist who gave an inspiring talk on Fine Art Drawing, and Hanna Salomonsson, a Ceramicist who shared her experience in the world of ceramics.
After the presentations, students had the opportunity to attend workshops led by the speakers of their choice, allowing them to delve deeper into specific areas of interest and gain hands-on experience. Activities ranged from designing and making architectural models to creating fashionable outfits using recycled materials.
This year’s Creative Day was a huge success, and we would like to extend a big thank you to everyone involved. We are excited to see how this experience will inspire and influence our students as they take their next steps toward exploring careers in the creative industries.
