Every year we welcome around 30 new students to our vibrant Sixth Form, many being supported by means-tested bursaries. Our new joiners come from all backgrounds and are a welcome and valued addition to Latymer.
Life in our Sixth Form is exciting and academically stimulating, with small classes enabling lively discussion and tailored learning. It’s a life-changing experience for our students: the personal and intellectual confidence developed through independent study in a fully co-educational environment is a fantastic preparation for university life and beyond.
Entry to the Sixth Form at Latymer Upper School is through our own examinations in November, followed by interviews for selected candidates.
We are very mindful of the disruption many pupils have experienced due to school closures as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. We would like to reassure parents and their children that our entrance exams are carefully designed by us to spot academic potential, rather than specific knowledge that has been attained.
The entrance exam consists of three papers which assess candidates’ mathematical ability and written communication as well as general problem solving and critical thinking. Candidates’ potential is assessed on their overall performance in these written tests, although the two most relevant to their proposed Sixth Form programme will carry more weight.
Sample questions can be seen below. Please note that registrations for the exam have now closed.
For more information about applying for a bursary please visit this page.
Candidates who perform well in the exam will be interviewed by a member of the Senior Management Team and senior subject staff. We will make offers to those students who are successful at interview, with grades tailored to their proposed programme of study in the Sixth Form. We will request confidential school references for all candidates invited to interview.
Applicants will need to submit a copy of their Year 10 report when they apply and will be invited to sit an exam in early November to assess their suitability for a Latymer Sixth Form education.
