If you ask a member of staff what it is like to work at Latymer, you are likely to hear it described as a stimulating, welcoming, supportive and ambitious working environment. We are a diverse, inclusive community of staff, all highly engaged experts within our field.

We pride ourselves on being both forward-looking and innovative whilst also being outward facing, involved in the local community and far beyond. Once you step into our community you begin to realise what a unique and special place this is, one that values individual contribution and, just as with our students, encourages staff to pursue their interests and achieve their ambitions.

Teaching at Latymer

At Latymer Upper School, we place particular emphasis on nurturing teachers intellectually and professionally, supporting their own development as lifelong learners and educators. All teachers are timetabled with ‘protected time’, during which they can choose to conduct their own research to deepen their subject knowledge, undertake Masters programmes or even PhD qualifications. We also expect teachers to be professionals with an up-to-date knowledge of pedagogy in the 21st century and provide time and resources to help them develop. For example, in 2018/19 two colleagues completed Master’s level qualifications in education and teachers visited schools, universities and other educational establishments in places as varied as Boston, California, Melbourne and Brussels.

The students here at Latymer are fiercely intelligent and academically ambitious, making the role of a teacher both stimulating and intellectually rewarding.

Beyond the classroom

Latymer has a diverse staff from a wide range of professional backgrounds and with an extensive spectrum of interests beyond their specific roles. This means there is always something going on, whether it is a foreign correspondent giving a lunchtime talk, an ultimate Frisbee competition in the sports hall or an author talk and book signing . Staff at all levels are encouraged to explore their passions and to take others (staff and students) with them whenever possible.
