World Perspectives Conference 2017

This year the annual World Perspectives Conference was dedicated to Brexit. All Year 11 students became pressure group members, campaigning for what they believe post Brexit Britain should look like. Throughout the World Perspectives (WP) course, which is unique to Latymer Upper School, students develop their digital, non-digital, collaborative and independent learning skills, and the conference draws together all of this experience.

On the first day, the students heard from three distinguished speakers on the topic. Firstly, our very own Mr Goldsmith explained how we got to the point of invoking Article 50 and leaving the European Union. Then Andy Slaughter MP (and Latymerian) explained the complex political process of ‘Brexiting’ and finally Allie Renison from the IOD discussed the implications of Brexit for business. The WP groups then had the challenging task of forming their very own pressure groups and creating a report, pitch, trade stand and advert for the WP Trade Fair the following day. The quality of the work created by the students was very high and made judging the competition extremely difficult indeed.

The Trade Fair show-cased the creativity, dynamism and erudition of the Year 11 students, and was a unique and memorable end to the WP course.

Congratulations to the overall winners; FutURe, Brakes for Brexit and YUTURE.
