Latymer Upper School Girls’ Hockey Team Crowned National Champions

Our Latymer Upper School 1st XI hockey team were crowned National Champions after playing in the Tier 3 National Hockey finals at Nottingham Hockey centre earlier this week. After drawing 1-1 (v Caterham School), winning 3-0 (v Dame Allen), and winning 2-1 (v Hereford Cathedral School), Latymer went through as the winner of the group. They then faced the winner of another pool: Bishop Stortford College in the final. It was an end to end affair, but no one could break the deadlock. After full-time it was 0-0. Both teams composed themselves before beginning a series of 1v1 shuffles. Again, it was an even 2-2 resulting in a second round of  ‘sudden death’ shuffles. Luckily, Latymer scored their shuffle and Idil (the Latymer GK) pulled out a terrific save to deny the Bishop Stortford player of their goal, securing Latymer the title.

This marks Latymer’s first-ever National Hockey title, and achieving it at the top end of the school is a truly remarkable accomplishment. A huge congratulations to the team, the sports department, and the hockey coaches for their outstanding dedication and hard work.
