Latymer Upper – Only school shortlisted for UK Social Mobility Awards

We’re honoured to have been shortlisted for the UK Social Mobility Awards and are very much looking forward to the finalists’ ceremony, which takes place in central London on Thursday 18 October.

Latymer Upper is the only school to have been shortlisted for this year’s Awards – and not just in one, but two categories: Latymer is in the running for the ‘Community Programme of the Year Award’, for the School’s partnership work with local state schools and our Head, David Goodhew, is a finalist for the Champion of the Year Award for launching our ambitious Inspiring Minds bursary campaign.

The UKSM Awards (UK Social Mobility Awards are run by the highly respected charity ‘Making the Leap’, which seeks to improve social mobility by raising the aspirations and increasing the opportunities of disadvantaged young people. The Awards were created to acknowledge leading organisations’ contribution to advancing social mobility. We’re so thrilled to have been recognised by such an esteemed judging panel, led by Sir Kenneth Olisa, and to have been shortlisted along with institutions such as the NHS, the Ministry of Justice and the Cabinet Office!

Latymer Upper’s Head, David Goodhew, said: “In the same year that Latymer Upper has won three TES [formerly Times Educational Supplement] awards, including Independent School of the Year, I’m so proud that our Inspiring Minds bursary campaign and our partnerships with local schools and organisations, have been recognised for these prestigious Awards. Of course the progress we have made would not have been possible without the support of our pupil, parent, alumni and staff community, for which I’m extremely grateful.”

Latymer Upper School has also been shortlisted for the inaugural Independent School Parent Awards ( for its contribution to social mobility. Edward Latymer would no doubt approve that his ethos of inclusivity continues to be at the heart of the School he founded nearly 400 years ago. Founder’s Day falls on the day after the UKSM Awards – hopefully a good omen for our nominations!
