During the Easter holidays, our German department and our students travelled to Hamburg to stay with families as part of our longstanding exchange programme with Johanneum, the world’s oldest Anglo-German student exchange scheme.
Upon arrival, the students spent their first day at Johanneum. They were given a comprehensive tour of the school by two German students, followed by the opportunity to join their partners in lessons. This experience provided them with valuable insights into the differences between the two school systems, and it certainly put their German language skills to the test.
In addition to their time at Johanneum, the students visited Lübeck, which they thoroughly enjoyed, and took the chance to stock up on marzipan at the famous Niederegger Café. The weekend was spent enjoying the warm weather with their host families.
The following week was filled with Hamburg-based activities, including treasure hunts, tours, and a visit to an art gallery. Throughout the trip, the group bonded well and they showed great interest in practising their German.
