Bushcraft

What an incredible week our pupils had camping, learning bush crafts and survival skills!

The first few days the weather conditions were very wet but as the week went on the children kept smiles on their faces and happily the forecast was  brighter for the remainder of the trip.

At the beginning of the week the children learnt one of the most important survival skills, which is how to build and make a fire without matches – not easy in any conditions and even more challenging in wet weather!!! They all did brilliantly and at the end of the week, the children all sat around the fires they’d built and lit themselves!

Later on in the week they were taught ‘Knife craft’ and learnt how to make tent pegs from branches and sticks that they could find in the woods.

As well as cooking for themselves, they learnt how to make bannock bread, which our Trip Leader reported back was delicious, especially when toasted on the fire.

Every  evening there were various night games involving lots of running around in the field. One of the  highlights was ‘Hunt the Teacher’ – for which teachers dressed in ghillie suits and hid in the undergrowth ready to be hunted by students

On the last day, pupils learnt how to make a stretcher (thankfully there was no need for the real thing) before they packed up ready for the trip home, with a quick stop off in Brighton to visit the beach.
