Year 7 One Day Filmmaking Challenge

Our Year 7 students took part in an action-packed filmmaking workshop hosted by the One Day Film School. The morning kicked off with four interactive masterclasses on filmmaking essentials. Students began by delving into the history of film, from the early days of film to the latest innovations in special effects. They then explored the art of fight choreography, analysing classic fight scenes before filming their own dramatic roundhouse punches. Next, students developed their practical camera skills, learning how to film like professionals with expert tips to avoid common mistakes. The final session focused on scriptwriting, where students discovered what makes a story truly compelling on screens.

In the afternoon it was time for the 10 Shot Challenge. Working in small production teams, students planned, filmed, and edited their own silent short films. With only 10 shots to tell their stories, creativity and teamwork were key.

The day culminated in an Oscars style ceremony, where students premiered their films in front of a panel of judges from the Young Film Academy. Awards were given for the Best Motion Picture, Best Performance and Best Technical Achievement.

It was an unforgettable day of learning, collaboration and fun.
