Last week Latymer Upper School saw the hotly anticipated ‘The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical’ make its way to the Edward Latymer Stage. A cast of 30 talented Middle School students – supported by a wealth of student technical and musical talent – performed to three sold out audiences made up of anyone lucky enough to get their hands on a ticket. Audience reactions were hugely positive, as they raved about the quality of the cast and production value for a show that was primarily operated by the students themselves.
As one of the first groups in the UK to be given the rights to perform the show, there were plenty of custom costumes and monsters made for the show, including a 10 foot minotaur, Medusa’s snakes, and a terrifying harpy puppet. We also had to turn actors into both a goat and a centaur, featuring some incredibly realistic furry legs. The set featured smoke jets, video screens, lasers, fog, and even a bus that literally exploded on stage each night!
The cast were led to a seemingly professional level by Rein, Pixie, and Mia who were backed up by an incredibly strong supporting cast and ensemble. There were plenty of tears on the last night as everyone realised what a journey they’d been on, and all the great friendships and memories that they’d taken away from the show.
A massive congratulations goes out to everyone involved for making this a huge success.
