Drama at Latymer

Home > Co-curricular > Drama

Latymer Upper School has a reputation for staging outstanding theatre productions with alumni including Sir Michael Boyd, Alan Rickman, Mel Smith, Hugh Grant, Imogen Poots, Ophelia Lovibond and Lily Cole excelling in this field.

The Edward Latymer Theatre is of professional standard and a wonderful space in which to enjoy the many performances staged by pupils. Smaller productions are set in the more intimate arena of the Drama Studio.

Large shows such as recent productions of Crazy for You and Little Shop of Horrors provide many students with the opportunity to take part either on the stage or behind the scenes. Plays with smaller casts allow the most talented students, many of whom study Drama to GCSE and A Level, to perform at a very high level and Sixth Form actors and stage crews take plays to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival every two years. Open auditions are held for all school productions.

Dance

We are fortunate to have a thriving dancing scene at Latymer with lots of amazing shows throughout the year.

Dance clubs take place most lunchtimes for Lower and Middle School students, and dance is also a very popular senior Games option. We offer a range of styles, from contemporary, to hip hop and cheerleading.

We hold a dance show every year, and every other year we put on the hugely exciting ‘Strictly Latymer’ show. Undoubtedly one of school’s highlights of the year, ten Sixth Form couples expertly (occasionally comically) perform beautiful  ballroom and Latin routines whilst they face our gruelling panel of (non)experts. However, the crowd has the final voice in who will be crowned that year’s winning couple.
