Joining Latymer
in the Sixth Form

Home > Admissions > Joining in Sixth Form

Every year we welcome around 30 new students to our vibrant Sixth Form, many being supported by means-tested bursaries.  Our new joiners come from all backgrounds and are a welcome and valued addition to Latymer.

Life in our Sixth Form is exciting and academically stimulating, with small classes enabling lively discussion and tailored learning.  It’s a life-changing experience for our students: the personal and intellectual confidence developed through independent study in a fully co-educational environment is a fantastic preparation for university life and beyond.

16+ 2025 Entry

Registration for September 2025 will open on our website in May 2024.

The entry process

Entry to the Sixth Form at Latymer Upper School is through our own examinations, followed by interviews for selected candidates. Applicants will need to submit a copy of their Year 10 report when they apply and will be invited to sit an exam in early November to assess their suitability for a Latymer Sixth Form education.

The entrance exam consists of three papers which assess candidates’ mathematical ability and written communication as well as general problem solving and critical thinking. Candidates’ potential is assessed on their overall performance in these written tests, although the two most relevant to their proposed Sixth Form programme will carry more weight.

Sample questions can be seen by clicking the box below. Please note the registration deadline is midday on Wednesday 25 September 2024 and we are unable to accept late registrations. If a candidate is eligible for learning support adjustments, you will be asked to indicate this at the point of registration. Supporting documents will be required to evidence any requested adjustments and these must be submitted by the registration deadline of midday Wednesday 25 September 2024 .

SAMPLE 16+ QUESTIONS

Candidates who perform well in the exam will be interviewed by a member of the Senior Management Team and senior subject staff. We will make offers to those students who are successful at interview, with grades tailored to their proposed programme of study in the Sixth Form. We will request confidential school references for all candidates invited to interview.
Entry requirements for Sixth Form joiners

We would expect all our Sixth Form applicants, if studying GCSEs, to achieve a minimum of 9 GCSEs including Mathematics and English, with grades 9/8/7 in the subjects that they wish to study in the Sixth Form, or in a related subject where the proposed course is in a new subject.

Further information on the curriculum is available in the Sixth Form Choices Booklet.

For more information about assistance with school fees and applying for a means-tested bursary please visit this page or contact the Admissions Team if you would like to discuss the School’s bursary programme.

Please note we are unable to sponsor pupils who require a Tier 4 visa. To register you will need to show proof that your child can live and study in the UK by uploading a copy of any relevant resident permit/visa. Unfortunately, if we do not have evidence that your child can live and study in the UK, we will be unable to make an offer.
