Joining Latymer
in the Sixth Form

Home > Admissions > Joining in Sixth Form

Every year we welcome around 40 new students to our vibrant Sixth Form, many supported by means tested bursaries.  Our new  Sixth Form joiners come from various backgrounds and are a welcome, valued addition to Latymer.

Life in our Sixth Form is exciting and academically stimulating.  Our classes are kept deliberately small which enables tailored learning, lively discussion and in-depth teaching.  It’s a life changing experience for our students: the personal and intellectual confidence developed through independent study in a fully co-educational environment is a fantastic preparation for university life and beyond.

16+ 2026 Entry

Registration for September 2026 entry are now open.

We have completed the entry selection for Lower Sixth (Year 12) entry for September 2025.

The entry process

Entry to the Sixth Form at Latymer Upper School is through our own entrance examination on 4 November 2025, followed by an invitation to Interview for applicants who have performed well at the exam.

To register, applicants will need to submit a copy of their Year 10 report and also specify the A-level subjects they wish to study at Sixth Form.

The entrance exam consists of three papers which assess :

i) Mathematical ability

ii) Written communication, including the ability to structure ideas, thoughts and arguments

iii) General Problem & Critical Thinking Skills

We are interested in a candidate’s overall performance and potential; however those assessments relevant to a candidate’s A level subject choices will carry greater weight.

Sample questions are available by clicking the box below. Please note that Registration deadline is midday Monday 22 September 2025 – we are unable to accept late registrations.

Learning Support

The deadline for receipt of all documentation relating to learning support requirements and request for exam accommodation is the same day as when 16+ registrations close and this should be sent to us for consideration by our Academic Mentoring Department. You will be sent a link to complete the form when your registration has been processed, at this point all relevant information, reports or assessments from qualified practitioners in the appropriate field (or details of reports or assessments pending) should be submitted. If you have not submitted the relevant paperwork by the published deadline, we will be unable to assess your request for exam adjustments for your child during the entry assessment process.

All relevant Learning Support details must be supplied at this point, we reserve the right to withdraw the offer of a place if incomplete, inaccurate or misleading information is supplied at the initial registration stage.

SAMPLE 16+ QUESTIONS

Candidates who perform well in the exam will be invited to Interview with subject specialist teachers and a member of the Senior Management Team.  For those candidates who are successful at Interview, conditional offers are made specifying the GCSE grade achievements that need to be met for the proposed programme of study in the Sixth Form.  Prior to Interview, we will request confidential school references for all candidates.
Entry requirements for Sixth Form joiners

We would expect all our Sixth Form applicants who are studying GCSEs, to be doing so for 9 GCSE subjects, including Mathematics and English. Candidates who opt to study an A- level subject in Sixth Form where there is an equivalent GCSE e.g. Physics, are expected to achieve grades 7-9, subject to a candidate’s engagement and performance at Interview.  For A-level subjects which are not offered at GCSE e.g. Politics or Economics, we will review achievement levels in related GCSE subjects. Specifically, a candidate who wishes to study A level Mathematics will need to achieve at least grade 8 in GCSE Mathematics (subject to performance at Interview) and grade 9 for A-level Further Mathematics.

Further information on the curriculum is available in the Sixth Form Choices Booklet.

To register you will need to show proof that your child can live and study in the UK by uploading a copy of your child’s passport and any relevant resident permit or visa. Unfortunately, if we do not have evidence that your child can live and study in the UK, we will be unable to make an offer.
