We are delighted to share the outstanding success of The Scientific Latymerian at this year’s Shine School Media Awards, held at Stationers’ Hall in London. Our student-led magazine, created and run entirely by Latymer Upper School students from Years 7 to 13, brought home multiple awards from this national competition.
The editorial team – Helena, Maxi, and Josie – were highly commended in two major categories: Best Overall Content: Printed and Best Magazine: Single Topic. Most notably, Year 12 student Maxi was named winner of The Terry Mansfield Award for Tomorrow’s Talent, the second most prestigious award of the entire event. This award recognises outstanding qualities of leadership, teamwork, and a strong grasp of what it takes to create compelling, audience-focused content. As part of the prize, Maxi has been invited to return next year as guest of honour and keynote speaker.
In a further recognition of excellence, The Scientific Latymerian’s staff advisor, Mrs Bartlett, was highly commended in the Inspirational Teacher category, having been nominated by the editorial team themselves.
Founded just last year by Madeline (now in Year 13), The Scientific Latymerian was established as a platform for students to express and share their passion for science. Every article is researched, written, and edited by students – a true celebration of pupil initiative and creativity. Remarkably, this year’s edition was only the magazine’s second – and its first time entering the Shine Media Awards!
