Children’s Mental Health Week 2023

We marked Children’s Mental Health Week (6-12 February) with events and activities across the School designed around this year’s theme ‘Let’s Connect’.

Ms Kendall gave a special assembly and form time was dedicated to bespoke activities as well as daily Taskmaster events.  Peer Mentors  ran ‘Buddy Breakfasts’ for Year 7 and 8 and hosted a special form time for Year 9s.

The Library team created a special book display with titles that support students and encourage them to connect. They also teamed up with the School’s Counsellors to host an open forum of talk, books and self-help. “Our aim is to support students to find support from within themselves, in the library, through making connections with each other and the counselling service. They can come and explore what connection means to them in a safe space,” said Ms McCargar, Head Librarian.

First launched in 2015, the week is co-ordinated by Children’s Mental Health charity, The Place2be (P2B). Through the week they aim to shine a spotlight on the importance of children and young people’s mental health and feature a bank of resources on their website (https://www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk/)

“Following the complex few years we have all lived through we felt it was apt to participate and really encourage our students, their families and staff to think about meaningful connections,” said  Basi Amodu, Lead School counsellor.
