Latymerians celebrate 42nd Anniversary of Orchestra Exchange with Hamburg

Over the February half term, the Latymer Upper School Symphony Orchestra visited Hamburg and celebrated the 42nd anniversary of the incredible orchestral exchange between Latymer Upper, Gelehrtenschule des Johanneums and Godolphin & Latymer schools.

After several days of intense rehearsals the orchestras united for a magnificent concert which included Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen, Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony and a rousing medley from Guys and Dolls.

“We always receive a tremendous welcome in Hamburg and we are all looked after so well by our German hosts,” said Mr Henwood, Director of Music and the trip leader. “A special thank you to all the families in Hamburg who hosted us last week.  This is a very special celebration of music and friendship between the two schools, and we very much look forward to welcoming the orchestra to London in 2024 when Latymer is 400 years old.”

The orchestra exchange is an important part of our association with The Johanneum which started in 1948, and is the longest-running student exchange in the world.
