Students impress Dragons with their entrepreneurial ideas

Year 11 students recently competed in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style event, presenting their business ideas to successful entrepreneurs and competition judges, Fran Boorman, Rowen Grobler, Nick Temple and Cindy Tian. 

The winning team of Clemmie, Francesca & Rose impressed the judges with ‘Packed’, their ingenious idea for providing nutritious, and more importantly delicious, no stress packed lunches for children.

The event was the culmination of the Empowering Entrepreneurs course delivered over the autumn term by former Latymer parent, entrepreneur and CEO of Envestors, Oliver Woolley.

“When the students began the course they didn’t know their IP from their USP,” said Chris Couch, Head of Careers.  “By the end of the course they submitted a comprehensive business plan and delivered a clearly defined four minute pitch. The course develops knowledge of business, presentations skills, confidence and creative idea generation. Students were able to take the theory of business and turn their ideas into realistic concepts.” “Our Dragons all commented on just how high the standard was this year and Oliver was impressed once again with the standard of this year’s ideas, business plans and pitches. The marks were really close between the top three teams and Packed just pipped the others to win, with its clever approach to an everyday problem for parents.”
