Sajid Javid MP on life as a cabinet member

Attendees to this Thursday's (22 September) JS Mill Society were in for a treat with our first address from a serving Cabinet Minister. The Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP (Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government) gave an honest insight into the day-to-day running of a government department.

As well as taking general questions on government policies, Mr Javid was keen to emphasise the professionalism of our civil service and the similarly important, yet vital ‘SPADs’ (special advisers).

Also of note was his experience of being appointed to the cabinet (by phone call) and dealing with the ensuing media reaction. A great start to the year, following up from Mr Goldsmith’s talk last week.
