Anthony Giddens looks to the future

Last Thursday (19 November) Latymer Upper was lucky enough to welcome one of the most prominent sociologists of our time, Anthony Giddens, to speak to the JS Mill Society. Anthony Giddens is not only the author of over 34 books but has also served as the Director of the LSE, where he is now Emeritus Professor at the Department of Sociology.

As can be imagined, Latymer were very excited to hear what he had to say and he didn't fail to impress. Giddens gave us a thorough insight into the future of the world with his main argument being that eventually the world would be overtaken by technology and many jobs now being done by humans will not exist.

Following the talk, Latymer students had the chance to express their opinion and ask questions to gain a wider understanding of the talk. Although the subject was quite daunting, it opened our eyes to the reality of the future and how quickly the world is changing. We thoroughly enjoyed having Anthony Giddens join us at Latymer and we would love to see him here again soon!
