At Latymer Upper Careers we understand that, for many students, making decisions about your future can be a challenging task. Our goal is to provide you with the best support and advice to guide you through the decision-making process from GCSE and A Level choices to University and beyond. We want to help you discover the subjects that you are passionate to learn more about, to have confidence in your unique strengths and to open your mind to all that is possible.

Here are some of the ways we can help:

A one to one appointment gives you the opportunity for personalised careers support. Your questions might be specific, about entry requirements or university applications. They might be general and about what you can do with an English or Science degree or information about Gap Years. They might be big questions like how to find a career that is personally fulfilling or that matches your personality characteristics or perhaps you are questioning whether University is the right choice for you.

Whatever your question, we will help you find the answer.

lunchtime talks

Our regular lunchtime talks are your opportunity to learn directly from professionals in a variety of industries, to hear Universities talk about subjects you might not have considered, learn more about networking, professional job applications and entrepreneurship. Learn more about fields that interest you and be inspired by those you are yet to consider.

Each January we invite a host of professionals to our Careers Fair. Here, you have the opportunity to speak individually to people working in careers that interest you and find out what it takes to enter their field.

In March, our Higher Education launch invites our Year 12 to start thinking about University Applications. Experts from top Universities will talk about how to apply, write your personal statement and choose your course.

We have lots of trained staff to ensure you make the best application possible. Support ranges from choosing a degree course to writing an application that will really showcase your skills. Specialist staff will support you in applying to Oxbridge or for high demand courses such as Law, Medicine or Veterinary Science.

Interested in Architecture but not sure you qualify for a degree in this area? In Year 12, you will have an interview with a member of staff with expert knowledge in any subject you might like to study at University. The interview will help you decide whether it is the right choice for you and you’ll find out more about the subject, too.

Our hugely successful work experience exchange gives our Lower Sixth the opportunity to spend 10 days as a native of Versailles or Berlin undertaking top quality placements while improving language skills.

We talk a lot about the benefits of work experience beyond building up your CV or making you University application. Work Experience is the best way to find out about career options before you make your post 18 decisions and you will meet people who can mentor and encourage you. LUS Careers can support you in finding work experience whatever your motivation.

You are enrolled in the Futurewise New Generation programme from Year 11. This begins with a series of online psychometric assessments which profile your interests, learning styles, strengths, and abilities. It also suggests careers which might be interesting to you. You will have an appointment with a Careers Advisor and access to the FutureWise website, a great tool for planning your future.

We talk a lot about University choice but not all school leavers choose to go straight to University. You can talk to us about extended work experience and taking Gap Years. Find out more about Apprenticeships and Sponsored Degrees as an increasingly popular alternative route into professional training.

Our Careers Service remains open to Latymerians beyond graduation. As an alumni, you can make an application to UCAS after a gap year through LUS, access our careers advisors and coaches or talk to us about finding work experience or a mentor through the LUS Alumni Network.
