Latymerians make a splash at ESSA

Fantastic results for Latymer’s junior girls at the ESSA (English Schools Swimming Association) national relay Championships on the weekend! Congratulations go to our winning team for an outstanding performance. The girls won Gold for their freestyle relay and Silver in the medley - the first time Latymer has won a National Gold medal for this race!

Our winners (Clara Von Opel, Nora Rotman, Madeline Grantham and Taylor Williams) stole the show with their success and have already attracted the attention of two leading magazines, both of which have asked to interview the ace team.

Head swimming coach Will Rowley said; “I’m hugely proud of the girls who all put in an excellent performance. They’re fantastic athletes with great technical ability – but what really counts in a relay is team spirit and the support between team members. Our girls’ attitude of determination, their resilience and hard work really paid off. They’re stars in the making!”

Over 250 school enter the competition, including the top sporting scholarship schools in the country, making their victory all the more impressive. The girls qualified 6th in the qualifying freestyle relay round, going through as the fastest qualifiers for the finals. They then made their stunning win in a time of 1.56.72!
