Latymer wins ISP Social Mobility Award

Social Mobility Winner

We’re thrilled to announce that Latymer Upper School has won the Independent School Parent magazine Independent Schools of the Year 2018 award for Outstanding Contribution to Social Mobility.

Head, David Goodhew said: “I’m so proud that Latymer has been recognised by the ISP awards as a school that takes the issue of social mobility seriously. Access to the excellent academic education, high quality sport/music/drama, as well as valuable soft skills, independent schools provide can have a transformative effect on children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Our pupils, staff, governors, parents and alumni have pulled together through our Inspiring Minds bursary campaign to help make our school a more diverse, grounded and exciting environment in which to learn. Winning the award for Outstanding Contribution to Social Mobility will be hugely appreciated by our school community – a fantastic way in which to end 2018!”

The panel of judges, leading experts in the education sector, was chaired by Dr Helen Wright and Vice-Chair and Head of the Independent School Parent Editorial Advisory Board, David Moncrieff. Of the inaugural awards, ISP said: “We were delighted by the positive and public response to the awards, which were held to highlight and celebrate the quality of the student experience in British independent schools. The judging panel scrutinised every entry, only considering those which they felt demonstrated excellence and a positive student experience.”

The winners were announced via twitter: Well done to @LatymerUpper, who is our Independent School of the Year in the Outstanding Contribution to Social Mobility category! Its innovative 'Inspiring Minds' provision has been a huge success, and 18% of its current Year 7s are now funded by bursaries. #ISOTY18
