Grease is the word!
Opening to a full house last night, the classic love story Grease was revived at Latymer with Sonny Pilgrem as Danny and Jo Strafford as Sandy. In a fun-filled Latymer production the biggest cast yet to grace the Edward Latymer Stage brought a wonderful energy to the ensemble numbers, with Carryl Thomas’ typically impressive choreography bringing the best out of dancers and non-dancers alike.
The numerous changes of location were brilliantly conveyed through Bryan Woltjen’s moving trucks which were dressed offstage by the efficient stage management team and moved around the space by six ridiculously cool ‘Greasers’. Alongside the set design Anna Pearshouse’s costumes make it seem as if we have stepped back into the fifties and the five main couples all look amazingly glamorous.
The couples, Rizzo and Kenickie, Jan and Roger, Frenchy and Doody, Marty and Sonny and, of course, Sandy and Danny are perfectly suited. Come along and match the Latymer actors to your memories of the film: Sam Jacobson, Julia Reinstein, Ava Moore-Hobbes, Harry Newman-Whalley, Alyssa Virji, Misia Butler, Maddy Chilsholm-Scott, Aaron Chawla and Jo Stratford and Sonny Pilgrem, all of whom are brilliant.
