At the end of Year 8 the forms are mixed up to create new ones, allowing everyone a fresh start. Year 9 pupils are taught in form groups in all subjects with the exception of Maths and French, for which they are taught in ability bands. Pupils select either German or Spanish as a secondary language. They will have 44 periods of study a week in Year 9.

There are extension courses for pupils in the top bands in Mathematics, French and Science.
Field trips and visits are offered which relate to the curriculum:
English Department: West End plays
Geography Department: New Forest Field Trip
French Department: Nantes and Lyons exchanges
History Department: Ypres and WWI Battlefields (joint trip with English Department)
In addition they spend Thursday afternoons on Games.
