LIFE AT LATYMER

PASTORAL CARE

At Latymer Upper School we aim to provide a tight mesh of pastoral care to avoid any pupil failing to achieve their potential due to either academic or social problems. The pastoral structure is based on Year Groups, with each Head of a Year Group being responsible for the pastoral welfare and academic development of the pupils in his/her Year Group.

Within each Year Group, the pupils are grouped in Forms under the direct care of a Form Tutor. The Form Tutors in each Year Group work as a team and are responsible to the Head of Year. The Heads of Year are in turn responsible to their Head of Division, each of whom is an Assistant Head and member of the School's Senior Management Team.

Three Divisions
The three ages of entry to Latymer (11+, 13+, 16+) define the starting points of the three Divisions of the School which are used for administrative and organisational purposes. The three Divisions, referred to as Lower School, Middle School and Sixth Form are as follows:

1. Lower School ages 11-13, Years 7,8
2. Middle School ages 13-16, Years 9,10,11
3. Sixth Form ages 16-18, Years 12,13

Support is given at all levels of the pastoral structure, from the Assistant Head (Curriculum), the Assistant Head (Community Links), the Nurse, the Chaplain and the School Counsellor. Tutors, Heads of Years and other senior colleagues can refer to these people for help on any matter. Pupils also have access to such support but they are encouraged, and would be expected, to seek advice first from their Form Tutor or Head of Year.
