LIFE AT LATYMER

FUNDRAISING EVENTS

HOW WE SPEND THE MONEY

Many Gild activities raise money that is then spent for the benefit of the students and the school.

The Horizon Fund
As the major recipient of Gild funds every year, the Horizon Fund makes grants to individual students to ensure that no one is excluded from taking part in any extra-curricular school trip, tour or course because of financial pressure. It is open to all students whether they are on scholarships or not and is administered by the school. Since the awards are means tested, all letters of application are treated in the strictest confidence and the identities of the recipients are not revealed. A successful application one year does NOT prevent a student from applying again.

For further information on how to apply contact Alex Hirst, Deputy Head.

The Equipment Fund
This provides a wide range of equipment for various departments, clubs and societies , from tents and rucksacks for expeditions, musical instruments for the orchestra , a washing machine for the theatre¹s wardrobe department, to a gas barbecue for the Prep garden and a mini-marquee for the rowing club to take to regattas.

The Gild also makes oneoff payments such a cash prize for a competition to design a Millennium sculpture and half the cost of executing the winning design . It also bought 7500 bulbs for the Prep garden - planted by students, parents and staff a specially adapted single scull for students with disabilities who want to take up rowing and the trees for the new piazza.
