New Sports Centre opens

The new and much anticipated Sports Centre opened on Wednesday 16 March. It is a stunning building which along with the world-class facilities at Wood Lane will become a focus of sporting achievement at Latymer.

The glass fronted building which houses the new six lane pool, with its fully adjustable floor for water polo training and aerobics, fitness suite and sports studios is a wonderfully airy space and will no doubt become a local landmark. All pupils will benefit from this area, not only those who choose to take up one of the many sports on offer (including fencing, climbing on the bespoke bouldering wall and dance classes) as the studios will be used by all students during their examinations. The new atrium is a stunning introduction to the Sports Centre, flooding the entrance and suspended stairway with natural light.

Opposite the swimming pool, to the left of the atrium, is the refurbished Sports Hall. Pale wood cladding on the walls gives the whole structure a clean, modern feel and a new sprung floor will give plenty of bounce to basket-ball, netball, cricket and badminton players. And all the sports staff team now have a new home on-site, with an office offering a bird’s eye view of the sports hall – ideally placed for keeping an eye on things and ensuring fair play at all times!
