Activities Week & Trips

Extra-curricular trips and activities provide many opportunities for social and personal development and the chance to take on new challenges and develop new skills.

SCHOOL TRIPS

School trips take place throughout the year, both as part of the curriculum and extra-curricular. These can be local to London or further afield. Year 9 visit Ypres every year for a combined English/History trip. Most trips are day trips with a number of evening theatre and musical trips also on offer. There are also longer language exchanges, offering opportunities for development of both language skills and cultural enrichment.

A list of school trips can be found on the list above. These are subject to change and up-to-date information can be found on the School Calendar.

Activities Week 2017: 26 - 30 June

Activities Week is a Latymer Upper School tradition which has existed for over 50 years and is fondly remembered by many Latymerians. In the last week of June, all pupils (except those doing public exams) participate in a week long activity.

Activities give pupils the opportunity to experience new and unfamiliar situations and challenges often working together as a team. Some are charity based trips taking part in community projects in such countries as Morocco. Most are residential, based all over Europe. Over 30 trips go out, ranging from camping and outward bound trips to Dartmoor, Devon and County Mayo to trekking the Alps, swimming in Lithuania, cycling in Austria or sailing in Scotland. Alternatively there are cultural trips to centres such as Belgium and Provence. There are also London based activities, ranging from multi-sports activities, exploring lesser-known London landmarks, developing gastronomic skills and scuba diving.

Further details of the individual trips are listed in the Activities Week 2017 booklet.

Parents and children applying for a trip will need to send in their choices electronically via SchoolPost.

Horizon Fund

The costs of trips and activities are kept to a minimum but the Horizon Fund covers the cost for those who would otherwise not be able to take part. Every request for financial assistance is considered personally by the Head to ensure that no pupil is excluded from an educational school trip. The Horizon Fund is paid for by a number of fund-raising events by the Parents’ Gild, with all funds raised being given back to the School to distribute in many different ways.
